BASF's pharmaceutical-grade L-Menthol is an synthetically produced organic compound. L-Menthol can be obtained as either a white solid mass or in form of white flakes solid at room temperature.
Leading in L-Menthol production
The main production site of BASF is by the Rhine River, in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Ludwigshafen is the company's largest production site, global headquarters, and the center of its research activities.
BASF’s long tradition in the aroma industry dates back to the early 80’s when it started running its own Citral production plant in Ludwigshafen.
Early 2000 the construction of a world-scale Lysmeral® production plant started.
In 2004, responding to the increasing customer demands for terpenes, BASF created a larger Citral complex with downstream (i.e. Citronellol, Linalool and Geraniol) in Ludwigshafen. And in 2012 BASF opened the world’s largest menthol production plant in Ludwigshafen. Being a well-recognized partner for the F&F industry, BASF is constantly working to strength its global footprint and increase its contribution to the aroma ingredients market. We are currently building a second aroma ingredients complex in Kuantan, Malaysia. Until 2017 a complete “Verbund” site will be installed step by step producing Isoprenol, Citral, Citronellol, and L- Menthol.
