HDO® are yellow crystals. It is soluble in anhydrous solvents.
HDO® products undergo all reactions typical for primary alcohols. Downstream applications of these product groups include protective and industrial coatings, microcellular polyurethanes, cast elastomers, fibers, adhesives, plasticizers, colorants, cosmetics, insecticides, surfactants, printing inks and many more.
The properties of HDO® products prove especially valuable in the production of polyester polyols. HDO®-based polyester polyols are used as polymer chain extenders; they are characterized by high resistance to hydrolysis, excellent mechanical properties, low glass transition temperature and a dry grip.
BASF manufactures HDO® products at its global Verbund sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Freeport, USA. The HDO® grades are available in flake or molten form.
