Pharmaceuticals
BASF has always recognized the importance of foreign markets and began growing across the globe only a few years after the company was founded.
The company began slowly and carefully constructing facilities abroad in the 19th century with more aggressive growth after 1945. BASF began purposefully penetrating key markets with its own production sites in the 1960s. Initially, BASF focused on Europe, North America and South America, but the focus shifted to Asia during the mid-1990s. BASF often relies on local partners to build sites abroad, especially in Asia.
BASF currently operates six Verbund sites as well as 352 additional production sites in more than 80 countries.
